Wednesday 10 September - BETINA to JEZERA and back - Sunshine and Rain

After a hot night swatting mosquitoes and fighting with the failing Air Conditioning Simon starts the day with a swim. We ignore the impulse to return to Lucica beach again and opt instead for a ride across the island to JEZERA and a small beach recommended in the guidebook called Koromasna. A few steep climbs of 10% make me feel pleased that I am not carrying a full pannier load. Lovely views of the coastline and the Kornati islands in the distance. The last bit is an unmetalled road but we make it to the bottom unscathed. Lots of smooth flat rocks to lie on and clear sea. We bask for an hour or so when the weather seems to change. Clouds appear and we try to ignore the threatening grey on the horizon. We have a quick tour of Jezera port but leave it rather too late and have a cold and unpleasant return journey through pretty torrential rain - no waterproofs with us of course, and brakes failing in the wet. Home for hot showers, tea and doughnuts and reading books under the cover of our terrace. The forecast looks grim and we are due to cycle 30 miles along the main coastal road to Biograd na Moru tomorrow. I am getting rather nervous at the prospect of negotiating the roads and avoiding the spray from passing vehicles as the rain is forecast to be even heavier tomorrow. We are considering a Plan B perhaps. We walk down the road to a local Cafe and have simple food indoors under harsh bright lighting: shrimp risotto and calamari and house red - makes the pizza seem expensive and last night's exotic fish experience another world away. We walk home in the dry rather hoping that the storm will come early and pass through quickly.
