SIBENIK TO TRiBUNJ. In praise of limestone

I've never really understood WH Auden's poem but I think he must have been inspired by the jagged limestone landscapes of the Mediterranean. Today we pass through the St Anthony channel on the Jadrolinjia boat Lara ( no problems getting our bikes on this time) - like a motorway cutting through the limestone cliffs, but  in this case a natural feature . A serene sunny day with clear blue skies as our boat first goes to the island of Zlarin, and then onto another island - Pvic. We get to Vodice, back on the mainland, just after ten. We get a bit lost through the back streets of the town and eventually cycle along the back of the beach that seems to stretch form the town to Tribunj, our destination. We arrive early but are met with a friendly welcome form the owner of the apartment, and go for a coffee by the sea on a mini Trogir. We buy watermelon and salty goat's cheese and bread and tomatoes. We cycle off to the local beach which is more of a concrete path with steps into the clear water. First time we have used our mats bought in Ciovo and they are a success! After lunch the wind comes up and the water becomes quite rough. We get a bit crowded out by locals and decide to cycle off and climb up to the church of St Nicholas on the top of the hill, with beautiful views. A relaxing beer on the front, then almonds and olives ( and some white wine!) on our lovely terrace with views to the sea. We have booked a table at restaurant Luna for tonight at eight which we cycle to using our bikes lights . There is in fact a full moon  overhead. The owner shows us his fresh fish and we choose the sea bass, which looks as if it will feed four. We have starters of carpaccio of beef and marinated anchovies and then the fabulously fresh sea bass with another bottle of Babic.
